Let’s Conserve Water Outside
Save on your water bill and protect the environment
- Use a tap timer. A forgotten sprinkler can waste more than 1000 litres an hour. A timer makes sure you never forget.
- Installing a drip system will put the water at the root system. The soil will absorb the water preventing run offs.
- Water the roots and not the leaves.
- Water your garden less frequently but be sure to give it a good watering twice a week.
- This will encourage the roots to spread deeper.
- When mowing the lawn in the summer months leave the grass a little longer to protect it from the burning sun. No need to water.
- Group plants into high and low water users. Windbreaks also reduce the drying effect of the wind.
- Mulch around your plants and trees keeps the moisture in the soil longer. This means less watering.
- Avoid watering during the heat of the day. Water can evaporate before it reaches the roots.
